Research and Development

Through our research and innovation, we are creating improved methods to foresee, avert, and address malnutrition, enabling more children to enjoy healthy and productive lives and allowing more communities to be liberated from hunger.

Our strategy combines scientific knowledge with practical application – equipping us with the essential tools needed to effect real change, even in the most challenging environments. Our varied portfolio and initiatives, which are deliberately designed to be fit-for-purpose, strive to meet the rigorous standards of evidence required for action on pressing issues, all while adhering to fundamentally strict ‘do no harm’ principles.

To achieve this objective, we undertake the following actions:

- Enhance the evidence base to establish a connection between research and tangible operational outcomes.
- Perform impact evaluations, pilot studies to demonstrate proof of concept, and cost analyses.
- Deliver empirically grounded, data-driven analyses and recommendations.
- Emphasize deeply collaborative partnerships.
- Determine clear, culturally sensitive, and sustainable strategies for scaling solutions.

Innovative Strategies

For more than 45 years, Action Against Hunger has been a leading entity in global hunger research, pioneering novel methodologies and tools aimed at enhancing child health and tackling the fundamental causes of hunger.

Our research endeavors are structured around three primary workstreams, which collectively foster coherence and integration across all areas of our intervention: the prevention of undernutrition, the treatment of undernutrition, and the anticipation of nutritional risk.
